Bad Company Beta Thursday... |

With under a week till the next generation Frostbite engine graces our PC monitors, in the form of the Battlefield Bad Company 2 beta, anticipation is understandably running fairly high.
So first off what do we know with regards Thursday's beta? Well, it appears access to the beta comes from pre-ordering via either Play.com, Steam or EA downloader; or being one of the lucky ones and grabbing a key off the BC2 twitter page on Thursday. Those taking part will be able to reserve their soldier name for use in the full game, while the beta is also region free, being open to players anywhere from England to the Middle East. Battle will commence over the map Port Valdez, a snow based rush game mode map, described as being "... fought alongside the waterline towards a great oil industrial landscape in the Alaskan mountains." For anyone who doesn't know the rush game mode, it "requires the attacking team to seek and destroy four crates which are placed in the map" before their tickets run out. The map info goes on to add that "it's a vehicle focused battle, but with plenty of infantry combat".
Download instructions will hopefully be given on a new beta page (http://www.battlefieldbadcompany2.com/beta) on Bad Company 2's website.

January heralds the major announcement of ECC's merger with =DEF=. After weeks of negotiations the two communities have decided to come together under a single banner. As such, all the DEF boys have agreed to trade in their tags in exchange for some shiny ECC's; while both Knaggsy and Hawkeye are welcomed on to the council with immediate effect. The merger will hopefully benefit all members, with both parties bringing a wealth of experience to ensure the new year starts in the right direction.
Dice have also provided their first New Years gift in the form of a PC beta announcement for Bad Company 2, with the testing indicated to commence from January 28th to February 25th. However, beta keys are indicated to be available with pre-ordered copies of the game, yet only Play.com seem to have given any update with regards this, with the UK's limited edition distributor (Game.co.uk) not providing an update as of yet. Keep your eyes peeled on BFBC2's official twitter page for more updates.
The new year has also seen ECC switch to the latest version of Team Speak, being TS 3, bringing improvements in sound quality that ultimately means; Cutchy now sounds more Scottish (if that's possible! - ed); Blake rants sound superbly cinematic; and, Gremo now sound's like Arnie Swarchenegger tougher brother! Regardless, the new phonetic nicknames have already shown their benefit, while the current lack of a free overlay has been shown as a disadvantage.
