Imagine the scene if you will. The attack on Camp Gib is in full flow. You're pushing towards Central, Voss crackling with well spaced bursts as you pick off the occasional EU trooper; when you near one of the entrance-ways and catch a glimpse of a well placed APM partially concealed behind a storage box. Instantly you pause, holding back from the blast radius but before you can issue a warning, Johnny Public sprints through and it's raining barbecued squadie. Hopefully, this will be the case for the upcoming PC release of BF1943 which is now only under a month away, yet has been road tested on consoles since the beginning of July! DICE's statement on the PC delay reads “We feel once you play the first Frostbite PC game ever from DICE you'll see why we put this extra time and care in on the development” and let's hope they're right. An extra month or two sorting out bugs now might (and that's a big might!) actually save the need for many of those horrendous patches in the future. Talking about patches, with news that the BF2 1.50 update is all but finished you'll be needing to dust off the disks in time for a few more inter-clan scrims, especially since “Added BF2142 prone style deviation” was spotted within the change log, which should please our 21 engine fans. Yet who's to say the next Battlefield offering, when it's finally released, will actually full fill what we've been waiting for? Other games are also on the horizon that might tempt us away from our BF world. Operation Flashpoint 2, due out the end of September looks to have mini-guns and heli's in droves. Borderlands, due for release in October, looks to be another fun Coop shooter, while after that Modern Warfare 2 will hopefully justify it's increased price tag! Trouble is, with any of these new games you run the age old question 'will my rig run it?' Which leads us on to our forum competition. All you have to do is post a pic (or two) of your rig and it's current specs, and then we'll work out who wins the gold star or the toilet brush in a couple of weeks!

Well, it’s that time of year again. The weather has turned clement, the barbeques are out and the case fans are whirring away at top capacity. Yes, it’s the good old’ Summer-time and as such, an occasion to get outside and enjoy the outdoors… or to stick on the air-con and enjoy some summer gamin’.
However, while the hyped next generation Battlefield game (1943) is almost out on consoles (8th and 9th of July), it seems us loyal pc gamers will have to wait a little longer, roundabout September, to get our grubby paws on the finished article (substitute ‘finished’ with ‘botched’ for the cynics amongst us).
So, in the mean time, we here at ECC thought about running a little competition, a Summer Stats week if you will. Head over here to read the details and sign up if you’re interested. And remember, on your way to the beach don’t forget your flip-flops, Voss and sun tan lotion!
