October News
OK, so hands up anyone who got slightly caught out this Sunday with the lack of the 2142 Tournament? (No-one? Well then it must just of been me! - ed.) Yep, the start of TGW's campaign 8 has been delayed a week till next Sunday and with the promise of lower ping's for European players due to changes with the servers should be all the more enthralling. The map choice also currently includes a user made map from our very own [ECC] ZapBran28, in the form of Marbella Outpost, meaning the competing members of ECC have absolutely no excuses for not pawning on the day!

Away from 21, the release of Operation Flashpoint 2 Dragon Rising has produced somewhat mixed opinions. While many seem to love it's open game play and co-op campaign mode, grumblings concerning mouse lag, unintuitive controls and the lack of dedicated server support are rampant; being to the point of completely turning some ECC members off the game. Still, Codemasters have stated that a patch is currently in production, so let's just hope it's release turns out to be sooner rather than later.

In other gaming news, with the confirmation of Left 4 Dead 2's release date, being November the 17th, interest in the original has resurfaced with numerous battles of Verses, Survivor and the still relatively new Crash Course Campaign getting some evening game time. It's worth noting that pre-ordering through Steam will allow early access to the demo, indicated by Valve to be pre-released to those select few in time for Halloween.

Sticking with new releases, Windows 7 is due out in two days time (21st Oct) and looks to be getting a big thumbs up from those who have been able to get their grubby mits on it so far. While there still seems to be some scope for patching (as [ECC] DK will vouch for with his TS problems!) the new look and feel is looking to be a great improvement over Vista (not that that was too difficult!).

On to last months competition, relating to creating a three word phrase with the starting letters of LAG, the entries have gone into a hat and we have two winners! Congratulations go out to [ECC] Blake and [ECC] Jamrev for their respective entries of “Lame *** Game“ and “Lots'a Angry Gamers”. Hopefully, some prizes will be dished up shortly.

This months comp features a good old fashioned flash game. Just click to dodge as soon as the bullet is fired and see how many stages / how high a score you can get! Post your score and the closest to this editors score at the end will win. Simples...

September News
And with that, it was done! Yes, the final, definitive, BF2 patch (to end all patches) was released on Tuesday the 2nd September. Preliminary feedback from those who have been able to download the mammoth file seems to be positive (assuming you can stay in game for more than 10 minutes) and if you haven’t downloaded already, then check out ECC DK1965’s post here for a list of where best to source it from.

Away from BF2, ECC's involvement with the TGW tournament continues to go from strength to strength, with the weekly custom maps being one of the main attractions. The 'Street' map received riotous praise the other week, with it's great conquest feel and tight choke points making it one of the favorites played so far. On a side note, for more custom map fun the clan Rusty in Places [RIP] run a Monday night event on their server playing some of the custom maps used in the tournament.

Regarding modified content, closer to home [TGW] Called has been busy updating Marbella Outpost and, subsequent to it being uploaded to our server, we're looking for another round of play testing. For those interested, this will hopefully be rolled into a flag by flag interclan scrim to keep it entertaining.

Away from the BF universe, Section 8 was released Friday and looks to be an interesting distraction, if not quite what us BF fans have been waiting for. Certainly, the squadplay aspects of the game appear to have promise, yet it has been announced that no demo will be finding it's way on to our trusty PCs.

And now on to this month’s competition. As gamers, most of us hear the word LAG shouted around during an online session (mostly by ECC Blake in the context of an expletive!), being normally used in reference to when a player has a dodgy connection or ping. Yet, what do those three letters actually represent? For this months competition we’re asking you to submit a three word phrase which you feel most appropriately sums up that Laggy feeling (or any other feeling for that matter!), using the letters L, A and G as the starting letters of the three words. For example; Lost Aiming Gaming. Answer on the back of a post card here and we’ll sort the winners in a week or so.
